Michael D’Arcy T.D. was elected to the 30th Dail in May 2007. He was appointed Deputy Spokesperson on Justice, with special responsibility for Equality in October 2007.
Michael is the son of former Fine Gael Minister Michael D’Arcy Snr. He and his wife Shelly have two young children. He is a full-time public representative and farmer. Educated at Ballythomas national School, Gorey Christian Brothers and the University of London, he enjoys all sports, reading and cinema.
Michael began his political career in 2004 when he topped the poll in the Gorey District in the local elections, recording the highest number of votes in Wexford.
An accomplished inter-county footballer, he won an All Ireland junior football title with Wexford in 1992 and was a Leinster U21 runner up in 1988. He has won five Wexford senior titles with Kilanerin. He also played U 16 and youths soccer with Wexford.
Michael is a former Director of Wexford County Enterprise Board, Wexford Organisation for Rural Development and Courtown Waterworld Ltd. He is also a former Chairman of Co. Wexford VEC and was a member of the Board of Management at Gorey Community School and Kilmuckridge Vocational College.
Michael is a member of the IFA and ICMSA, Kilanerin/Ballyfad Community Development Association and Kilanerin/Ballyfad GAA Club.
Since being elected to the Dail in 2007 Michael has worked to advance the interests and needs of Co. Wexford, campaigning on such issues as the provision of new and improved infrastructure, ending the deficit of investment in industry and employment, in primary and secondary schools and community development projects. He also has lobbied for the provision of affordable childcare, in support of the provision of amenities and has campaigned against the budget cuts in education and health and against the pension levy.
