Biography
Senator Michael D'Arcy was elected to the Seanad in April 2011
He was a member of Dail Eireann from 2007-2011
He was previously Deputy Spokesperson on Justice, with Special Responsibility for Equality, from October, 2007.
A married father of two, he topped the poll in the Gorey District in the 2004 Local Elections, recording the highest number of votes in Wexford.
Michael is a former Vice-Chairman of Wexford County Council, serving in 2004-2005, he was also Chairman of Co. Wexford VEC and a member of the board of management of both Gorey Community School and Kilmuckridge Vocational College. He is also a former Director of Wexford County Enterprise Board (CEB), Wexford Organisation for Rural Development (WORD) and Forest Park Leisure Complex, Courtown.
An accomplished inter-county footballer, he won an All-Ireland junior football title with Wexford in 1992, and was a Leinster U-21 runner-up in 1988. He won five Wexford senior titles with Kilanerin. He also played U-16 and youth soccer with Wexford.
Michael hails from a long established politcal family, his father Michael D'Arcy T.D. a former Government Minister, celebrated 50 years as a public representative in 2008.
Michael is a full-time public representative and farmer, with practical experience as an apprentice solicitor (completing final Law Soceity examinations) and teacher (Transition Year Law module, Gorey Community School.)
Educated at Ballythomas National School, Gorey Christian Brothers' and the University of London, he enjoys all sports, reading and cinema.
