Following extensive discussions with the current Minister, Senator Michael D’Arcy is pleased to announce the allocation of €1 million towards the purchase and fitting out of the Civic Amenity Centre, to be located in Gorey Business Park in Ramstown.
While the project has taken longer than anticipated, the outcome is as desired. The contract price has been agreed with the owner of the business park. It is now a matter for Wexford County Council to conclude the contracts and finalise the transfer of the recycling centre, which I hope they do without delay.
The civic amenity centre will be a huge benefit environmentally to North Wexford and will create employment for a number of people. I want to thank Minister Hogan for his personal attention on this matter. At my request, the Minister visited the site earlier this year and has been a constant source of support, concluding with the allocation of €1 million. In these times of fiscal austerity, this is a great result and demonstrates the benefit of government representation in our town.
I am looking forward to the centre being opened as quickly as possible, hopefully before Christmas, and I will keep the district informed of further developments.
Despite the significance of this announcement for North Wexford, Senator D’Arcy slammed Enniscorthy Fianna Fail TD John Brown.
I was amazed to hear Deputy Brown announcing this important initiative on South East Radio on Friday last. Through 14 years of Fianna Fail led government Deputy Brown and his party delivered nothing for North Wexford. They sat on this project for many years with no results. Fine Gael have been in Government for 6 months and we have now secured the million euro in funding to complete this project- this is no coincidence.
Yet, as soon as a Fine Gael led government, with my guidance, invest in the area, John Brown crawls out from under the woodwork. This despicable type of “do no work but seek credit” politics that deputy Brown pursues is dishonest and I know the people of North Wexford will see through it.
I will continue to work with the Fine Gael led government to ensure that more investments are made to further improve our area. Deputy Brown and Fianna Fail neglected Gorey. This will not happen under my watch.
