Following the Government’s capital expenditure announcement for the coming years, Senator Michael D’Arcy is pleased to confirm that there has been no downgrade of the N11 project – the Newlands Cross/N11 PPP will be advanced, subject to funding. Unfortunately access to PPP funding is strained in the current climate and the Government is preparing to re-enter the bond market in order to bolster exchequer funding for infrastructure projects. The key point here is that despite the deferment of other infrastructure projects, there has been no change in the status of the N11 project and this is good news for the entire South East region.
With specific reference to Wexford, the Enniscorthy and New Ross bypasses will follow the completion of the Newlands Cross/N11 PPP, if there is a positive response from the markets. Again these projects remain unchanged as before. There are challenges for these major works but with the continuation of the purchasing and planning it is very good news for Wexford. This demonstrates the Fine Gael /Labour Government commitment to completing the roads programme in our county.
